Overtaking refers to one vehicle on a one way or multi-lane roadway. The attempt to overtake another vehicle within 30 meters of a pedestrian crossing or a bus stop is illegal. The overtaking maneuver escalates the likelihood of a head-on collision where both the cars excessive speed can often result in a fatal outcome.

Signs and road markings provide visual overtaking rules and aid motorists by warning that the bends or dips in the road ahead. The main overtaking rule more than anything else is common sense. It is generally an accepted practice as long as it does not cause risk or inconvenience to other drivers.
