As far as I know, the way to approach your client to make your meeting as productive as possible is to;

a. Not make use of your office for the meeting if possible; this is due to the fact that your office might be full of distractions from your phone, email to folders on your table. Your main priority should be your client for as long as the meeting lasts. To ensure total concentration, you can book a conference room for the appointment with your client.

b. Make adequate preparation for your meeting, in a case that it is a face-to-face meeting, it has a particular reason for such that it couldn't be attended to via email or phone calls. Ensure that all information, as regarded the meeting is documented for the client to review.

c. Be prepared to provide answers to questions, depending on the list included in your agenda, try to expect various questions the client might ask you, and make preparations to answer them.

Acknowledge that they are upset and ask them what is bothering them.
When your client is grumpy, their emotions will inevitably cloud their judgment and make it difficult for you to interact with them on substantive matters. At the same time, if they are experiencing anger, it is important for you to validate for them that you understand that they are upset. By acknowledging your clients anger and offering your assistance, your client will feel as though you are on the same side and treat you as a friend and continue to direct their anger elsewhere- allowing you to focus on the substantive issues at hand.
