You need one forever stamp, pasted at the top right corner of the letter for a 1-ounce letter. However, you need more stamps if your letter weighs more than one ounce. For letters weighing less than 3.5 pounds it is best to use the First Class letter stamps. Every extra ounce of the letter will cost you approximately $0.21.
As you add on papers to your letter, remember you will need to add on stamps accordingly. If the number of stamps on the envelope is insufficient, compared to the weight of the envelope, the letter will not be posted. Instead, it will be sent back.
