Photosynthesis is the process whereby plants make their food in sunlight in the presence of chlorophyll. The equation for photosynthesis shows the raw materials, carbon dioxide and water combining to form glucose. It shows that six molecules of carbon dioxide combine with six molecules of water in the presence of sunlight to form Glucose ad six molecules of oxygen.

The oxygen is used by the neighboring cells and the rest is released into the atmosphere. The glucose s either used for energy or stored for later use. It can also be used to synthesize complex structure of the plants, required for growth.
