A peer review may also be referred to as a technical review. This is a less formal review but may be just as scary. Peers can be much harsher than senior management! It differs according to industry. In the Recruitment world, a peer review may just be the team members feeding back on matters such as the colleague's support, ability to manage problems, likeability etc.
In, say, building, software and engineering design, technical review may involve other experts - surveyors, architects commenting on hard facts, such as defects in the design or product. A commonality of technical reviews is that it's peer review without management.
