Metabolic alkalosis is a condition wherein the tissue’s pH heightens to its normal range. The normal level ranges from 7.35 to 7.45. When the pH level of the tissues goes beyond 7.45, a decrease in hydrogen ion occurs. In the given situation, the patient has a tube connected to low suction for 2 days.
Since there is a small bowel obstruction, the patient experiences loss of hydrochloric acid. One can also experience vomiting due to metabolic alkalosis because of this loss. One can also be advised to take an antacid to calm the stomach to avoid vomiting. It is important to drink water so a person will not get dehydrated.
