The Russian Federation is one country. Although the Union of Socialist Soviet Republics (USSR) consisted of multiple countries, Russia being the most dominant, this is no longer the case. Russia is in Asia, north of Afghanistan. It borders fourteen different countries. It is the world's largest country and is located partly in eastern Europe and partly in northern Asia.
It has enormous land masses ranging from dull, monotonous stretches of wasteland, through lush, desert and mountainous areas because it is so vast, and it is bordering the Arctic Ocean in the north. Technically you could cross from there to Alaska across ice floes, but I think this has only been achieved once or twice. Most would die in the attempt.
