The American involvement in the Korean war occurred in the 1950s and is a blot or embarrassment that successive governments would love to forget. The loss to the American economy was around $63 million and the loss of life far greater for American citizens to bear. Estimates give the figures as 35,000 killed, and over 100,000 wounded...and for what end? After the second world war the capitalist countries interfered after Japan was so signally defeated, and divided Korea: divide and rule? No.
Divide and cause lasting problems. North Korea remains a huge risk to the whole world and why? Loss of self-esteem leads to a huge hunger to display power. Power the North Koreans have gained - or at least its leaders - but the vast majority of the population suffer great poverty.
