Mumps is an airborne illness and is contagious but generally spread through coughing or sneezing. Impetigo is a bacterial skin infection. While it is contagious, it is not airborne. Measles is also airborne and highly contagious. It will linger in the air up to two hours after an ill person coughs or sneezes.
Cholera can be spread however it is usually done so through poor water treatment or by consuming water that has feces in it. Although the measles and mumps are both concerning and can cause major complications, the Measles is far more contagious.
Measles-rationale: measles warrants airborne isolation, which aims to prevent transmission of disease by airborne nuclei droplets. other infections necessitating respiratory isolation include varicella and tuberculosis. the mumps call for droplet isolation; impetigo, contact isolation; and cholera, enteric isolation.client needs category: safe, effective care environmentclient needs subcategory: safety and infection controlcognitive level: applicationreference: smeltzer, s.c., et al. brunner & suddarths textbook of medical-surgical nursing, 11th ed. philadelphia: lippincott williams & wilkins, 2008, p. 2483.
