When a client is admitted to an acute care facility with a tentative diagnosis of hypoparathyroidism, the nurse should monitor the client closely for signs of profound neuromuscular irritability.
Hypoparathyroidism can cause bone reaoption to slow down, can lower the level of calcium in the serum, and also cause profound neuromuscular irritability. Hypoparathyroidism does not have an effect on the client’s blood pressure or affect how thirsty the client is. Gastritis does not cause hypoparathyroidism nor does hypoparathyroidism cause gastritis.
Pofound neuromuscular irritability. Hypoparathyroidism may slow bone resorption, reduce the serum calcium level, and cause profound neuromuscular irritability (as evidenced bytetany). Hypoparathyroidism doesn't alter blood pressure or affect the thirst mechanism, which usually is triggered by fluid volume deficit. Gastritis doesn't cause or result from hypoparathyroidism.
