Parents may be allowed to know important information about their child, but sometimes there are times when the adolescents can ask a medical personnel to keep their medical information a secret from their parents. It would all depend on whether the information that is discovered from the adolescent is dangerous or harmful to the child. If it is, then the medical personnel should inform the necessary people.
If it was something that happened in the past, secrets may be kept. If a nurse is conducting a physical assessment on an adolescent and she reveals that she had an abortion earlier, the nurse may respect the adolescent’s wishes and maintain her confidentiality if the adolescent asks the medical personnel that she doesn’t want her parents to know.
