The correct answer to this question is 16. A tablespoon is a cooking utensil. It is mainly used for measurements, but in some regions around the world, a tablespoon is used for eating. In Canada, a tablespoon is the largest spoon used for eating. Its use for eating dates back to before the 1700s.

In European countries, it was custom for each person to bring their own utensils for eating. The tablespoon was one of those utensils they would bring. It would also be placed at the table, along with the fork and the knife. When other types of spoons came along, like dessert and soup spoons, tablespoons were no longer needed for this purpose.

Cups to tablespoons (tbsp) conversion factors are listed below. To find out how many tablespoons in a cup, multiply by the conversion factor or use the converter if the conversion is from US cups. 1 Cup [US] = 16 Tablespoons [or 24 Dessert spoons] [US], 1 Cup [Metric] = 14.08 Tablespoons [or 21.117 Dessert spoons] [UK].

There are 16 tablespoons in a cup, because from the largest to the smallest units between cup and tablespoon, there are 8 fluid ounces in a cup and 2 tablespoons in each cup, that makes 8 * 2 = 16 tbsp in a cup. For example, to calculate how many tablespoons there are in a cup and a half, multiply the cup value by the conversion factor, 1.5 cup * 16 = 24 tablespoons in a cup and a half. Cup is a volume unit and used mostly to measure liquid and bulk, dry foods. There is no international standard for cups but mostly United States customary and metric cups are used. 1 cup is half of a pint in both US customary or imperial measurement systems. The metric cup is 250 ml and 1 US cup is 236.5 ml. The imperial and the Canadian cups are out of use today. Although the volume capacities are different, the traditional imperial (UK) cup also equals to 16 tablespoons because 1 imperial cup is 10 imperial fluid ounces and 1 imperial ounce is 1.6 imperial tablespoons, that makes 10 * 1.6 = 16 imperial tablespoons in an imperial cup.

The imperial (UK) cup is 284.131 ml and the Canadian cup is 227.3 ml. The abbreviation of cup is "c". Tablespoon is a volume unit in several measurement systems and used mostly in cooking recipes. 1 US tablespoon is about 15 ml. or 1/2 fluid ounces. Australian tablespoons are larger in capacity and equals to 20 ml. In US, there are 2 tbsp in 1/8 cup, 4 tbsp in 1/4 cup, 5.3 tbsp in 1/3 cup, 8 tbsp in 1/2 cup, 12 tbsp in 3/4 cup and 16 tbsp in 1 cup. The abbreviations for tablespoon are "tbsp", "tbs", "tb".
