If a patient needs to be moved either to go into surgery or to another bed, there is a proper procedure for a nurse to do that. To reduce the amount of energy needed to move the clients weight against gravity, the nurse should slide, roll, push, or pull rather than lift the client. the nurse should flex her knees and use her arm and leg muscles instead of her back. To minimize stress, the nurse should stand as close to the client as possible.
