Patients who are admitted to the hospital usually require help from the nurses for simple tasks like using the bathroom, eating and getting out of bed. However, each of these duties requires training so that the patient does not get hurt. Helping a patient out of bed may be done differently for different patients depending on their injuries or diseases.
However, there are standard procedures that apply to all patients. They include telling a patient to dangle his legs off the bed. Most of the time, the bed has to be lowered or raised so the mechanism is under the bed. Since the mechanism is under the bed, the bed is usually higher off the ground. This may make it difficult for patients to safely get out of bed by themselves.
