The area of a circle is also called the circumference. Circles are unique in that they do not have any number of sides like most other shapes do. When finding the area of a circle you must use the formula Pi times radius squared. Pi is the ratio of a cicrle's circumference to its diameter. Pi is a long series ofnumbers beginning with 3.1415.

The radius of a circle can be found by finding the distance between the center of a circle and its outer edge. It may seem a bit more complex to deal with finding the area of a circle vs. other three or four sided shapes but when you get the hang of it you'll find its simple and easy.
