The invasion of Poland The event that started the Second World War was the invasion of Poland by Germany in September 1939. The Nazi party rose to power in 1993 in Germany and took over power in every aspect of the society in Germany and other countries which they occupied. The invasion happened after Germany had secured the neutrality of the Soviet Union. Shortly after this invasion, Britain and France declared war against Germany.
