The Eiffel Tower stands very tall in today’s terms. It is 984 feet tall, not including all the broadcast antennas on it. With all the broadcast antennas that now grace the top of the Eiffel Tower, it is 1,063 feet tall. It’s almost one hundred feet taller with the broadcast antennas. When it was first completed, it surpassed the Washington Monument as the tallest man-made structure in the world. That is no longer true, as there are plenty of lattice towers taller than it now.
When it was first completed, people absolutely hated the Tower. They thought it was an ugly eyesore on the Champs-Elysee, and many argued for its demolition. This often comes as a shock to people since the monument is so well-known and well-loved today.
