The Accidental Tourist was a book written in 1985 by Anne Tyler. The book enjoyed quite a bit of success as it was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize and won the National Book Critics Circle Award for fiction in 1985 as well as the Ambassador Book Award for fiction in 1986.
It was also adapted to film in 1988 and won Geena Davis an Academy award. The book and movie both garnered a lot of critical acclaim in both the literary and the film worlds. The tale of a man and his quirky siblings was most definitely a hit book for Tyler.
