E.M. Forster wrote “A Passage To India”. It was published in 1924. The book is about a trial for rape. Like many books about this kind of a trial, it comes from a simple misunderstanding. The four characters that the book is based around have gone to India to explore some caves that are based off of real Indian caves.
Dr. Aziz is one of these characters, and is assumed to have raped the main female character because she flees a cave - thinking she is alone with him. The panic and the aftermath of the trial is what the book actually focuses on. The book is considered to be one of Forster’s best, and is one of the best books of the 20th century.
