The painting that is often referred to as the “Dutch Mona Lisa” is entitled “The Girl With The Pearl Earring”, and was painted by Johannes Vermeer in or around 1665. There is no clear indication on when the painting was actually created. It is signed by Vermeer, though.
The painting itself is rather simple. It’s all black except for the girl in the middle of the canvas. The girl has white skin, so we know she’s European. Exactly where she’s from is a mystery, as she is wearing “exotic” clothing and an oriental headwrap. She might very well be on a trip in China or India. She has blond hair under the headwrap - up in a ponytail. On the one ear that is showing, we see a rather large earring. It is thought to be a pearl earring.
