If you are planning to make bread, you would need ¾ cups of warm water, 1 pack or 2 ¼ teaspoons of active dry yeast, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 ½ tablespoon of sugar, 1 tablespoon of vegetable shortening (although this is entirely optional), ½ cup of milk, and 3 cups of all-purpose flour. First, you need to make the bread dough by pouring the warm water in a large bowl. Mix the dry yeast and wait until it is fully dissolved. Once the dry yeast has been dissolved, add the sugar, vegetable shortening, salt and milk and stir until everything is combined.
Mix 2 cups of all-purpose flour and add more (one tablespoon at a time) until you get the desired consistency. Start kneading until the dough becomes soft and smooth. Set aside and wait until it has doubled in size. Once the dough has doubled in size, preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for about 45 minutes. Make sure to check the dough after 30 minutes to ensure that you don’t overcook the dough. You will know it is ready if the dough becomes golden brown. Let it cool on a rack for a few minutes and then serve.
