Many people can identify certain herbs based on their appearance. However, once the herb is ground into a fine powder, it may be more difficult to identify them. Sometimes, people can smell herbs and identify them. Mint looks like a leaf. It has a definite smell to it that is quite strong and easily recognizable. Parsley has an appearance of a green jagged edges.
Rosemary has a long stem with leaves coming off of it. Chives are long thin grass-like herbs that are simple to identify. Basil has full leaves similar to mint. Both of these herbs resemble a teardrop in their shape. However, it is easier to tell the difference by smelling them. Sometimes, if you rub your fingers over a mint leaf and then you can tell it is mint if you smell your fingers.
