Herb Brooks was born on August 5, 1937. He is best known for his time in the National Hockey League between 1981 and 1985. In 2003, he was killed in a car accident on August 11th. He had just turned 66. The crash happened as he was driving home. There were no drugs or alcohol in his system. The best hypothesis as to what really caused this crash is that he fell asleep after driving all night long.
However, his legacy lives on. There have been two movies made about his work in the hockey world. One was a made for television movie, starring Karl Malden in the part of Herb Brooks. It came out in 1981. A second movie came out in 2004 called “Miracle”, where Kurt Russell played Brooks.
