The Elizabethan Era in England ran from November of 1558 to March of 1603. This time period was the time that Elizabeth the first reigned as queen. Many historians actually look at it as the golden age of England’s history. During this time the kinds of food eaten very much depending on how wealthy the individual was. The lower classes ate very humble diet but the upper class ate quite lavishly.
They especially enjoyed a variety of meats some of them quite decadent. This included beef, pork, deer, duck, mutton, veal, peacock, goose, swan, and lamb. They also ate a lot of different vegetables and nuts. Hazelnuts, walnuts, peas, beans, and lentils were all popular.
