Ancient Egyptian 'dishes' aren't compiled together as one whole meal as they are today. The Egyptians' diet included meat from either fish of the Nile, beef, goat, mutton, and poultry. Generally, meat was boiled or roasted then seasoned with salt, pepper, cumin, coriander, sesame, dill, or fennel.

Their diets also included vegetables like onions, leeks, garlic, beans, lentils, lettuce, cabbage, radishes, and turnips. Fruits that were commonly eaten were figs, dates, plums, and melons. Although you can definitely find 'traditional' dishes and meals of Egypt, these meals are not so much what ancient Egyptians would have consumed.

Ancient Egyptians had their meals from the crops they produced. They grew mostly grains. The main crops grown were wheat and barley. The wheat was made into bread and barley into beer. Both the rich and poor ate from their major staples which were bread and beer. Vegetables like onions, beans, lettuces, lentils, cabbage and garlic were added to their meals sometimes. They usually had plum, dates and melons for dessert.

Meat, fish and poultry were common among the rich. Oils were made from lettuces, sesames, radish seeds and many other flowers. They also made sweeteners from honey and dates. Dishes like "ful medames" and "Ta'meya" are traditional dishes of the Egyptians that originated from the staples of the ancient Egyptians.

In Ancient Egypt the cuisine was quite different than the foods that most people are used to in today’s society. It must be remembered that they did not have the same conveniences as we do today. Things like refrigeration were not an option. In ancient Egyptian society no matter what your class status was the two major staples were beer and bread.

These two staples were often accompanied by green shooted onions, other vegetables, and sometimes meats but meat was a less common food. When meat was available it usually came from a domesticated animal and was often a type of poultry including partridge, quail, pigeons, ducks, and geese.
