Mice love soft foods with protein. Soft cheeses - such as brie - make perfect mice bait. Peanut butter also makes a good mouse bait - just make sure you put out the creamy kind instead of the chunky kind. These are usually the best bets for mouse traps within the home. Other kinds of bait that could be used in a mouse trap include marshmallows and gumdrops.
As long as the food is sweet, soft, and high calorie, it’ll work. If it’s nesting season, a different kind of bait is preferred. Use nesting materials - such as twine or floss - to bait the trap.
In the wild, however, they’ll eat just about any kind of nut they can find. That’s just who they are.
