At first, never look directly at the Sun specifically without very good eye protection. Indeed, even your usual shades can't shield your eyes from the harmful Sun's beams or protect against what damage light rays can do. Furthermore, if you are using a pinhole camera to view the eclipse (which is the safest way) always hold your back towards the Sun while taking a gander at a pinhole projection.
Additionally, don't look directly at the Sun through the pinhole, binoculars or telescope. The Sun's beams can harm both the binoculars and could cause a fire to start if the rays are being magnified through the lenses.
