Susan Margaret Collins (who was born December 7, 1952) is an American lawmaker who at present fills in as the elder United States Senator from Maine. An individual from the Republican Party, Collins has served in this role since 1997, and was appointed in 2015 as the Chairwoman of the Senate Special Committee on Aging. She also led the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs from 2003 to 2007. She is noted most recently for her vote which helped the Democrats win the vote not to disband the Affordable Care Act.
She likewise is known for her long sequential voting streak, which achieved 6,000 votes in September 2015. She is the present senior member of Maine's congressional designation.
