The interface setting that must be enabled for clients to view records in a list view is called inline editing. Inline editing allows the user to edit information on a single page without having to ever go over to another page. This method of editing allows the user to be able to edit the text in the same place in which the text is showing up.
This could lead to fewer mistakes in the long run since everything is being done in the same place. Being able to edit records in a list view can be really helpful in saving on time as well as saving on editing efforts. Essentially it is a preferrable way to conduct the editing you need to do.
