The OSI model stands for the Open Systems Interconnection model. This involves the communication system needed for a computer to function and communicate to other systems. There are seven layers in the OSI model.
These layers include the physical layer, data link layer, network layer, transport layer, session layer, presentation layer, and the application layer. The layer below a layer supports that layer above. Each layer though serves a specific purpose and function.
For example, the first layer which is the physical layer defines the functions of logical network-wide addressing and routing. It is also known for transporting and receiving data from a piece of equipment. Usually the data that it receives is raw. The next link which is the data link layer allows for communication between two nodes.
