The dog breed of the Labradors is not hypoallergenic. The word hypoallergenic means something that is unlikely to cause an allergic reaction. An allergic reaction arises when the person’s immune system has a negative response to allergens. When someone is allergic to dogs, they are not allergic to the dog, necessarily, but rather, they are reacting to the allergens which are produced by the dog. This allergic situation is because the allergens are not only in the dog’s fur; they are in his dander, saliva, urine, and mucous.
Even hairless dogs make allergens. Most people consider their allergy response as the notion that they are allergic to dog hair. However, even hairless dogs produce allergens. Quite often, when referring to a particular breed of dog, if it is not known for shedding its fur, it is wrongly assumed that the dog is hypoallergenic. That being said, no dog is hypoallergenic. However, labs are a good pick for those who are looking for a bigger dog with fewer allergens.
