Scleromyxedema is a skin disorder with symptoms such as abnormal growth and formation of mucin in the skin, which also causes sclerodermoid bumps to appear on the skin. In some cases, scleromyxedema can affect various body systems. Although scleromyxedema is a rare condition, its causes are still unknown. However, experts believe it is associated with conditions such as myeloma, leukemia, lymphoma, and other cancers of the bone marrow. Scleromyxedema is very common in older people between the ages of 30 and 50 than in children. While most of the symptoms of scleromyxedema appear on the skin, it can also affect other areas of the body. For instance, it can affect the upper airway and the pharynx. Some of the symptoms of scleromyxedema include hoarseness, neurologic dysfunction, esophageal aperistalsis, eye abnormalities, proximal, myopathy, heart abnormalities, breathing difficulty, etc. Although scleromyxedema can be treated, the severe form of the disease may require aggressive treatment.
