Alcohol has a large effect on your central nervous system. The central nervous system is responsible for transmitting signals from your neurons to the rest of your body such as your brain, arms, legs, and vision. With the effect that alcohol has on your central nervous system, it makes it extremely dangerous to operate a vehicle while under the influence.
The alcohol in your blood system will impair your vision, possibly making it appear you are in between the lines in the road, when in fact you are between two lanes. This will also slow your reaction times, which can cause you to not swerve in time to miss a pedestrian or not hit the brakes when a light turns red.
