The best food items to buy in preparation for a hurricane are those that are relatively non-perishable. Anything requiring refrigeration is not beneficial because there's a chance of the power being knocked out. Typically, South Louisianans will take turns preparing meals for the neighbors as to prevent the food from spoiling in a powerless deep freezer.

With that said, buy rice, bread, water, cans of tuna or other meat that doesn't require refrigeration. Instant noodles and instant coffee are also advisable. If you have children, snacks like chips, Little Debbies, and cookies are useful. Finally, before the storm hits, purchase dry ice and stick it in your freezer. This will help keep things cold a bit longer which will lead to less waste.

Hurricanes can be terrible. Some times hurricanes destroys many things. It leaves most of the community in a bad state. It is good to store up foods that can last at least 10 to 15 days during the hurricane. Imperishable foods are the best to store in times like this.

Here is a short list on the kind of food to store in this season. Get water, store gallons of water in your home cause during the storm you might be short of good water to drink and to cook. Get cereals, cereals last a long time on the shelf. Canned food such as tuna, instant mixes like ramen, some vegetables and fruits are also great options.

When disaster strikes, a large percentage of individuals are not prepared for it. If not properly prepared, there is not much choice for preference and flavor, but if properly prepared, you can have a wide variety of options for nutrients and foods. Some foods that will store well and stay frosh for longer periods of time are dry foods such as crackers, cereals, nuts, trail mixes, waters, and canned foods such as vegetables, chicken, tuna, soups and chili. These items are all great to have stored and prepared for times of emergency.

When given a proper amount of time to prepare for a hurricane, it is wise to stock up on fresher foods as tomatoes, citrus fruits, apples, squash, and any other fruits and vegetables you prefer.
