The digestive system is made up of many organs that help with the process of breaking down food. The process of food digestion begins in the mouth as you chew your food and comes to an end in the small intestine. As food passes through the digestive system, also known as the gastrointestinal tract, it mixes with digestive juices which breaks down the large molecules in the food to smaller molecules.
After food is broken into small molecules, it is absorbed into the bloodstream, and then passed through to the large intestine and out of the body in the form of a solid matter called stool.
