Economically, the possibility of survival is genuine, which means people would bite the dust without their needs being met. This things include water, food and shelter. A want is one stage up taken from needs and is essentially something that individuals want to have, that they may, or may not, have the capacity to acquire.
In simpler terms,
Need: something you must to have
Want: something you might want to have
Another approach to dissect a character is to look at want versus need. For the most part, a want is something that someone thinks he should have in the begining. It's the impetus. They imagine that what they want is the main objective. Truth be told, it's the point at which the character comprehends their need that they understand what will bring comfort, satisfaction, or prosperity.
