On the average, burglars choose their targets within their vicinities, say about two miles from where they reside. It is a possible advantage in the burglars’ thinking because they would have known much about the locality and easily learn their targets daily routines so they can strike when they are aware the victims will be away for long.
They may also look for clues that tell if the possible targets are on vacation or not—such as when the surroundings is unkempt. In order to reduce your risks of being burgled, it is helpful to vary your schedules as much as possible and get someone to watch over your house when you are gone for a long time.
