Jacobo Arbenz Guzman was the 25th president of Guatemala. Guzman was a military officer that revolted and won control of Guatemala. He saw a need for a change and a social reform in the nation. Guzman lived from 1913 to 1971 and was nicknamed the big blonde or sometimes the Swiss for his Swiss origins. He was actually the second democratically elected president in Guatemalan history.
Arbenz was born into a middle class family in which his father was a Swiss German and his mother was a Guatemalan. He graduated with honors from a military academy and then rose quickly through the ranks.
