Norepinephrine is a chemical that doubles as a neurotransmitter and a hormone. Norepinephrine is the “chemical cousin” of epinephrine, also known as adrenaline. This organic chemical functions in the brain and body as a hormone and neurotransmitter. Norepinephrine is used inside the brain as well as in parts throughout the rest of the body. Outside of the brain, this chemical is used as a neurotransmitter, being released from the sympathetic ganglia which is located in an area near the spinal cord or the abdomen.

When released, it is released directly into the blood stream by the adrenal glands which allow the norepinephrine to have an almost immediate effect on the body.
