The name of the monster that plagues the people in “Beowulf” is Grendel. He is this giant of a man, with a horrible temper and large, pointed teeth. He’s a hairy thing of a giant man, and his mother, oh his mother is the definition of a helicopter parent. He basically is upset that no one is willing to talk to him or be around him.
There’s a spin-off book named “Grendel” that tells the story of Beowulf from the point of view of Grendel. It came out in 1971, and was written by John Gardner. It humanizes Grendel a little more as a pariah from society because of what he looks like. It isn’t recommended for those who are not familiar with the Beowulf story.
