The name of the banquet hall that Grendel hauntsHerot. Some people would use the word Heorot and it is totally fine since both words can be used interchangeably. Grendel is one of the antagonists in the Old English poem entitled Beowulf. It is set in Scandinavia wherein Beowulf, the hero of the Geats, helps King Hrothgar slay Grendel who has been haunting Hrothgar’s great call – Heorot.
Although Grendel is commonly depicted as a giant or a monster, his real status or appearance is not clearly described in Beowulf. However, since Grendel is referred to or describe as a sceadugenga and always lurking in the dark, scholars debated whether or not he is truly a giant or a monster.
