Darry is Ponoboy’s older brother in the novel entitled The Outsiders. It is a coming-of-age novel written by Susan Eloise Hinton or better known as S.E. Hinton published on April 24, 1967. It tells the story of two rival groups, the Greasers and the Socs who were divided by their own socioeconomic status.
The main protagonist in the novel is Ponyboy Curtis, the youngest of the Curtis brothers and joined by the following characters: 1) The Greasers – Sodapop Curtis, the middle brother, Darrel “Darry” Curtis, the oldest brother, Johnny Cade, Ponyboy’s best friend, Dallas “Dally Winston, Keith “Two-Bit” Matthews, Steve Randle, Tim Shepherd and Sandy 2) The Socs – Sheri “Cherry” Valance, Robert “Bob” Sheldon, Randy Anderson, Marcia, David and Paul Holden.
