Swing dance is a very popular dance during the early to mid-1900s. Prior to World War II, swing dance was all the rage. There are different types of swing dances though. The most popular that people would recognize is the Lindy Hop. Swing dance became popular as a result of the music attached to it. Since jazz was popular during this time, swing dancing emerged with this type of music.
Other types of swing dancing includes the Balboa which includes eight beats. The other dances were the collegiate shag which originated in either North or South Carolina. The Lindy Charleston involves many different positions. Later in the 1950s, the swing dance moved to different dances based on where they originated from including the East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing and Western Swing.
