The papillosus is not the name of the ruminant strongylid. That’s actually strongyloides. There is very little information on the strongylidae (the genus of worms) as a whole. Get into the specific species of worm, however, and there’s plenty to find. These worms are often found in the small intestines of various animals - hence the ruminant part of their name since they often find their home in animals that “chew their cud”.
The cud is basically chewed up plant material that hasn’t been digested yet. The strongyloides can survive outside their hosts for one or several generations. These are called free-living. Various species differ on how many generations can survive without a host, but many are doing it so that they can find another host.
