The invertebrates are animals that do not have a vertebral column. There are a lot of groups that are part of the invertebrate family. The arachnid group is composed of different types of spiders and other similar creatures. Take note that the lack of the backbone is the only thing that creates a distinction between the vertebrates and the invertebrates.
Invertebrates would need to consume other organisms so that it would be able to live. They can usually consume animals that are smaller than them. Take note that invertebrates can be symmetrical or asymmetrical. There are some crabs for example, who do not have the same sized claws.
Invertebrates are the animals that do not have a backbone. Many animals that are known for being invertebrates include snails, starfish and worms. Even though it may seem that most species of animals are vertebrates because we see them walking around like dogs, cats, elephants and lions. However, the vast majority of the animals are actually invertebrates. Most of the invertebrates are symmetrical on the outside of their bodies.
That means they are a mirror image on both sides of the top of their bodies. Slugs seem to be symmetrical, but they have a hole in their bodies that are used for respiration. There are a few invertebrates that are asymmetrical. This includes a certain species of crabs. This has to do with their claws. One claw seems to be smaller than the other.
