The duck which comes out so early before duck hunting season is A or blue-winged teal. The blue-winged teals are small dabbling ducks which originate from North America. They grow up to 16 inches long, have a wingspan of about 23 inches and weigh up to 13 oz. Blue-winged teals are known to stay or live in marshes, ponds, small lakes or anywhere where grass are intermixed with different variety of wetlands.
They are the first ones to go south during fall and the last ones to go north in spring. They are prompted to migrate early due to changes in their habitat and weather conditions to search for food such as grain, moist-soil seeds, invertebrates and some second-crop rice.
