Dolphins are animals that swim in the ocean. They are mammals even though they live and swim in the oceans. They are known for having a long pointy nose and a fin on their back. When swimming, many people are not afraid of dolphins compared to sharks.
However, dolphins are known for several things. They are known for being smart and they can hear sounds that occurred far away. However, they are also aggressive. Many people believe that these animals are calm and sweet, but they can be aggressive and harmful whether it is intentional or accidental. Therefore, it is important to keep your distance. Don’t try to ride the dolphins either. They could probably hear you coming because they can hear sound 160 kilohertz.
Dolphins do not have external ears to hear with but they can hear through two small openings on each side of their heads. Scientists also believe that dolphins can hear underwater through their lower jawbone which connects to their middle ear.
Dolphins are able to listen to a broader range of frequencies than humans are. Dolphins can hear sounds at about 160 kHz this is about 7 times better than humans can hear. Unfortunately this actually means that as humans there are a wide range of sounds that we are unable to listen to that dolphins can hear. We are unsure what they can hear that we cannot even imagine with our ears.
