The Spanish word for a crab is “cangrejo”. Crabs, in general, are little creatures that range from a foot to a couple of feet in length. They typically have characteristics that show off the sexes. Males will have larger claws - the fiddler crab shows this off the best. The male has a large front claw, and it is used for communication instead of for finding and gripping at food. Males also have a smaller abdomen.
The females have a wider abdomen because they carry fertilized eggs on their abdomen. There are actually many animals with the word “crab” in their name in English that aren’t crabs; crabs have a single set of claws, that’s all. Some of these animals include hermit crabs and crab lice.
