In Spanish, a fish is called “un pez” or “el pez”, to use ‘the’ in front of it. Fish come in all sorts of colors and sizes. A few recognizable species are the royal tang (such as Dory), the starfish, the octopus, and the clown fish (like Nemo and Marlin). They can be found in freshwater or in salt water - the sea. A lot of different species are kept as pets, with the beta fish being the most popular one for beginners.

For those looking to get a fish as a pet, though, there is a lot to remember about how to take care of them. If you choose a salt water variety of fish, the water will have to be changed more often than a freshwater variety. Both require more than the simple fishbowl sold at a petshop, though.
