While making sure not getting parasites is the most important thing a horse owner can do, the one all should be on the lookout for is parascaris equorum. The more common name is the equine roundworm. It’s able to infect horses, as well as donkeys and zebras. Typically, calves that are six months old are the ones that are most vulnerable to being attacked by this parasite.
The female can become as large as fifteen inches in some species, and it is incredibly difficult to kill. This parasite typically requires large doses of a powerful medication to kill it, and if it doesn’t kill it, it might come back with a resistance to the medication and be even harder to kill.
